Tony Williams :: Centre Manager

The Centre Manager (which means the one who makes most of the coffee and tea!!!) since January 2004 is never happier than when he is on top of a mountain with no visibility and a good compass! Has been a youth worker for far too long and has loads of experience of residential activity camps as well as having been Diocesan Youth advisor for Exeter Diocese for 11 years. Tony is a Church Army Evangelist, a Manchester United fan (from Manchester) and an outdoor enthusiast.

Julie Williams and Haley Cartlidge :: Administration

Julie looks after the bookings and activities as well as being an instructor for Archery and on-site activities. Having been a nurse and had a couple of years with Youth With a Mission, she then worked full time as a youth worker followed by a long spell as a CAB advisor.

Haley joined the team in mid 2004 and is a keen children's worker at her own church, as well as working on children's missions around England and…. in Albania!!!! Together they keep us all in line, make sure our visitors are looked after well from the time they first get in touch to long after they leave us.

Tony Hawker-Bond and Alison Thompson :: Site Maintenance and Instructor

The man who's been there, done that and is still smiling. As well as looking after all the maintenance and equipment, Little Tone is a red hot archery guru and Mountain Biker and seems to know the forest like the back of his hand…mind you…his eyes are going and his arms aren't long enough to focus on his hands!!!

Alison is extraordinary….. only about 5'2"… blond (we think) and a dab hand with a chainsaw, a blower, machete and a rake. Ali has transformed the grounds and is a great on-site instructor. Her energy is infectious… her mince pies are to die for and her lipstick is red!!!

Malvina :: The clean machine!

Malvina make the place sparkle…so don't panic if you find her hovering around your smelly socks…or painting things that look like they need a freshen up (don't stand still too long!!!!) In addition she often supplies milk and biscuits for the staff, so she is very popular!!

Steve Bedford :: Full Time Instructor

Steve was known as a man outstanding in his field! For the last 20 years Steve has worked extensively with young people and children; setting up a very successful project called "On the Edge" which worked alongside churches helping them reach young people and children in challenging circumstances, outside the churches normal influence.

Steve is married to Lin and they have three grown up children. He now brings his extensive experience to Viney Hill as a full time instructor.

Hannah Wilmott :: Trainee Instructor

Hannah recently spent her Gap Year at Viney Hill. Much to the delight of the rest of the staff she decided to stay with us in a trainee/apprentice position, putting her leadership potential to great use and gaining loads of experience and knowledge. Hannah does some onsite instruction as well as maintenance duties and obtaining qualifications in outdoor instruction.

Our freelancers

We have a number of excellent freelance instructors who work with us throughout the year. They are all qualified to appropriate National Governing Body level, and have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau, they are First Aid qualified and are gifted in the activities they teach. We couldn't function without them!
